Mr. Mignogna is an experienced metallurgical engineer, who has worked as an applied researcher, materials development specialist, and mill quality assurance and process engineer in the steel, wire, tube making and thermal spray coating industries. He has also served as a materials specialist within the US Navy’s nuclear power program, and worked for government agencies involved in the design of buildings and other municipal facilities.
After graduating with a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now the Polytechnic Institute of New York University), where he won the Noah Kahn Award from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Mr. Mignogna served as a metallurgist developing non-destructive test methods for the US Navy. He also holds an M.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Mignogna is licensed as a Professional Engineer in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Mexico and Florida, and is also registered as a Patent Agent with the US Patent & Trademark office.
Mr. Mignogna has 25 years of teaching experience at the college level, and has previously served as chair of the Engineering Technology department at New York Institute of Technology's Central Islip campus, chair of the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering at Charles County Community College (now College of Southern Maryland), and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Westchester Community College in New York.
Mr. Mignogna's current consulting engineering practice is based in Florida, where he focuses on providing materials information to clients in order to help prevent metallurgical and corrosion failures in product, equipment and systems designs. He is a strong advocate of taking preventive measures during the design process to avoid or mitigate failure during the production, construction or use of those items. He has also served as an expert witness in several metallurgical failure investigations, and specializes in using applied statistical techniques to evaluate metallurgical test data.
